Euro Update: Tony Pidgley Sells Entire Horse Collection to P.S.I.

British building magnate Tony Pidgley has sold his band of horses to Performance Sales International. PSI's Ullrich Kasselmann and Paul Schockemohle agreed to Pidgley's offer to buy Kilbees Stud Farm's high quality horses. PSI acquired approximately twenty horses amongst which numerous renowned licensed stallions and the prestigious Bundeschampion Samira.

Tony Pidgley, Berkeley Group's chief executive, has an estimated fortune of 115 million British Pounds and covers the 701st place on the Times Rich List 2008. Avoiding yachts, overseas holiday homes and private jets, Pidgley chose a simpler life with his second wife of seven years, Sarah Hill, who introduced him to the world of dressage.

The collection of horses Pidgley had bought for his wife over the years was one of remarkable high quality. Pidgley invested in celebrated licensed stallions such as Rosario, Diamonit, Daddy Cool and Donaugold as well as Trakehner licensing champion Grand Passion. He owned Spirit Freedom, the silver medallist at the 2005 World Young Horse Championships. In September 2007, he also purchased the coveted 6-year old Bundeschampion Samira.

Sarah is an avid horse person and has been riding daily under the supervision of German Markus Gribbe. As horses were gradually taking up a major portion of her time, Sarah has now chosen to focus on her family exclusively these next years. She is a mother devoted to her husband and two small girls, Annabelle and Jessica.

The collection of horses for the 2009 PSI auction in December will definitely be spiced with Kilbees Stud's power horses! PSI confirmed that it will sell the more advanced ones privately. See Eurodressage article

Capellmann In Front at the CDN Munster

Nadine Capellmann and her Hanoverian gelding Elvis (by Espri x Garibaldi II) won the Grand Prix tour at the national show in Munster. Since Capellmann started to train again with Klaus Balkenhol, Elvis has started to sparkle again. They won the Grand Prix with 73.702% and the Special with 74.542 %

The show in Munster is known to be the premiere for many horses which have moved up a level. Ingrid Klimke, for instance, showed the former double World Young Horse Champion Damon Hill in his first Grand Prix. The pair finished fourth in a class won by Nadine Capellmann on her new Grand Prix horse Raffaldo (by Raffaeli Z). The "Preis der Zukunft", a prestigious nationwide competition for Young Riders, was a debut in more ways than one for Friederike Hahn: She missed her whole last season as a Junior because Richard Löwenherz sustained an injury at the EYC in Bonn last spring, but now he's back, and "Fritzi" didn't know what she was more happy about -- the fact that he's back, or the fact that he did so well in Friederike's debut as a Young Rider.

Sara Henrietta Kallstrom Bergstrom, Brita Stina Eriksson, Eva Fraim and Gunilla Bystrom were the recipients of the "dressage" related awards.

Comet of the Year, which honours Sweden's shooting star of the year, is young rider Sara Henrietta Bergstrom Kallstrom. Bergstrom Kallstrom has achieved tremendous successes nationally and internationally with her mount Garcia, a 12-year old Swedish warmblood mare by Bernstein x Brisad.

Brita Stina Eriksson from Flenmo, Sweden, was proclaimed Breeder of the Year. Eriksson bred Kyra Kyrklund and Yvette Conn's 13-year old Swedish warmblood gelding Max (by Master x Alpenfürst). Max was the best Swedish born horse at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong finishing eighth overall in dressage.

This year's Horse of the Future in dressage is Quite a Miracle, a show jumping bred mare by Quite Easy x Irco Marco which turned out to be one of Sweden's most promising young dressage horses under Gunilla Bystrom.
