Ottawa, Ontario — For the second month in a row, Eric Lamaze was named the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' by Jump Canada. Having already captured the CAVALOR ‘Athlete of the Month’ title in April, Lamaze was again the obvious choice for May.
On May 1, Lamaze and Hickstead, a 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by Ashland Stables and Lamaze’s Torrey Pines Stable, placed second in the 2011 Rolex World Cup Final. The Olympic Champions went on to win the €200,000 Longines Grand Prix of La Baule in France on May 15 and, two weeks later, won the €200,000 Loro Piana Grand Prix of Rome on May 29, marking the first time the prestigious Italian competition was won by a Canadian rider.
Also during the month of May, Lamaze guided Coriana van Klapscheut, a nine-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare owned by Artisan Farms, to four major victories with two wins in Valencia, Spain; one in La Baule; and one in Rome.
On the strength of his incredible results, Lamaze returned to the number one spot when the Rolex Rider Rankings were released on June 1. The Rolex Rider Rankings are tabulated by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) on a monthly basis, and all points earned in FEI-sanctioned competition in the past 12 months are counted.
“You need great owners and great horses in order to experience the kind of success I had this month,” said Lamaze of Schomberg, ON. “I have great owners in Artisan Farms and Ashland Stables, and having a great team of staff makes a huge difference in allowing this to be possible. I am also thankful to my sponsors, CAVALOR being one.”
As the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for May, Lamaze receives a gift certificate from title sponsor CAVALOR Inc.
