Emanuel Andrade and Angel Karolyi to Make World Championship Debut

Caen, France – Emanuel Andrade and Angel Karolyi will make their world championship debut competing as members of the Venezuelan Show Jumping Team at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Caen, France.

Held every four years, the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games act as the world championships for equestrian sport.  Show jumping competition begins Tuesday, September 2.  In preparation, all horses were presented for inspection on Sunday morning.  Andrade presented Hardrock Z, an 11-year-old bay Zangersheide stallion (Heartbreaker x Carthago Z) and was accepted.  Karolyi jogged Amigo, a 10-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding (Coriano Z x Silvester) owned by Hollow Creek Farm, for the panel, and was also accepted.

At 17 years of age, young Andrade is making his major games debut.  Karolyi, 27, represented Venezuela at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.  He was also a member of the gold medal team at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Joining Andrade and Karolyi on the Venezuelan team at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are Olympian Pablo Barrios riding Antares and Andres Rodriguez riding Caballito.  Barrios and Rodriguez both competed at the last world championships, the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.

A total of 158 horse-rider combinations representing 54 countries are expected to compete at this year’s world championships for show jumping.  A record 35 nations will contest the team medals.

Competition begins on Tuesday, September 2, with the opening speed phase, which counts towards both team and individual standings.  Team medals will be decided on Thursday, September 4, while the individual medals will be determined following ‘The Final Four’ on Sunday, September 7.  In a true test of horsemanship, each rider jumps the course on all four horses to determine the 2014 World Champion.
