This weeks News Notes are brought to you by YS Nutrition! The World Dressage Masters Palm Beach (WDM) brought together top talent from both North America and Europe and the competition was truly World Class! Check out who came and who walked away with the title of Champion (the title did change hands this year...and countries)! One of our US riders was eliminated at the WDM after the Grand Prix based on the new blood rule. It seems that clarification is needed on this one. California is gearing up for upcoming CDI's that will bring the best of the west together with attention already focused on the prize - the 2014 WEG! California rider Christine Traurig has aquired a new mount that is movig toward Grand Prix, will she be making a bid for the WEG? On a serious note, Steven Wysocki, husband to dressage judge Kristi, was one of the hostages at the BP facility in Algeria and we are so grateful that he made it out alive. {C}

This past week saw people from around the world converge on West Palm Beach, Florida for the World Dressage Masters Palm Beach so it is to be expected that things are going to be a little quiet this weekend! There are only two shows on the USDF calendar for FLorida this week. We have the American Dressage Concours I and II in Venice and the Dressage National 2 in Wellington. Sunny California will host one competition this weekend with the Golden State Dressage Premiere in Rancho Murieta

The World Dressage Masters Palm Beach is a wrap and the Swedish team of Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven and Don Auriello emerged as the Champion over fellow countryman Patrik Kittel and Watermill Scandic HBC. Vilhelmson-Silfven scored a personal best of 84.075% in front of a very enthusiastic crowd at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Kittel's score was also impressive with a score of 82.52% in the Freestyle which wrapped up a successful visit to the US before heading home to Sweden. Two-time WDM Champion Steffen Peters had to settle for third with a 80.17% aboard the 11-year-old Legolas 92 who showed "true moments of brilliance" according to Stephen Clarke (judge at C). It is unfortunate that one of the US top riders, Tina Konyot was eliminated at the World Dressage Masters Palm Beach this past weekend based on the new "Blood Rule". It seems that a Steward, after the test, wiped a tissue on Calecto and there was "a trace of blood" and was therefore eliminated by the Judge at C.  Kyra Kyrklund, President of The International Dressage Riders Club (IDRC) has written a letter to show organizers seeking clarification as to whether Tina should have been eliminated or if Calecto should have been inspected to see if he was fit to compete. While they are "taking no action" it will be interesting to see what the FEI has to say. Read more at DressageDaily.com.

While the 2012/2013 Florida Winter Circuit is well under way, California is ready to look forward to the 2013 CDI show season. SOme of the US's top combinations will be sharpening their skills or debuting new rides in hope of a bid for the 2014 Alltech World Equestrain Games in Normandy, France. The series of CDI competitions will kick off the season with the Mid-Winter Dressage Fair CDI3* - February 22-24, 2013 at the a Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA. Speaking of California - another aquisition for American dressage has been made with Christine Traurig of Rancho Sante Fe, CA. Along with her sponsors Janet Balmuth and Michelle Leonard, Christine purchased the 11-year-old Westfalian gelding Louisdor (Laurenzius x Ehrentusch). Louisdor was the record sale horse at the 2005 Westfalian auction selling for 370,000 Euro then went on to compete, moving to Prix St Georges in 2012. While not actually looking for a horse for herself a connection was made and so was a deal! Read more at Eurodressage.com!

While I was monitoring the recent attack on the BP oil facility in Algeria by Al-Queda terrorist, it was not known to me that their was a connection to one of our own in the dressage community. Steven Wysocki is the husband of the popular dressage trainer and judge Kristi Wysocki. Steve was one of the Americans that made it through the ordeal by hiding from terrorist for two days with two co-workers before deciding to make a run for it on Friday at daybreak. Our hearts go out to the Wysockis and we are so glad that Steven is ok! Read the rest of the story from Kristi at ABCnews.com.
