There is lots going on in Europe this past week with the kick off of the REEM ACRA World Dressage Masters. There is also news out of the famous Danish stud Blue Hors who has given the ride on two of their strongest Grand Prix horses going to Edward Gal and Lars Peterson! It looks like the World Cup competition will have to go on without the fabulous Totilas and his rider Matthias Rath. In one of America's biggest cities, New York to be exact, the debate about the carriage horse industry rages on as one of the horses collapsed and died in the streets earlier this week...

The 2011/2012 REEM ACRA World Dressage Masters kicked of the season this past weekend with the competition in Odenese, Denmark with Hans Peter Minderhoud emerging as the victor! Here at home, California's nice weather is allowing for the show season to roll along. They have the Greenville Equestrian Center Dressage in Livermore, the Dressage At Mission Pacific in Somis and the CDS Dressage In The Valley III in Clovis. The south rounds out this weekend with the Poplar Place Farm October Dressage Show in Hamilton, GA.

The REEM ACRA World Dressage Masters kicked off this past weekend in Odense, Denmark with Hans Peter Minderhoud coming out on top of the competition with IPS Tango who he calls a "work in progress". Minderhoud was pleased with how his horse performed and has his sight set on the World Dressage Masters final that will be held in April 2012 in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Edward Gal continues to build an impressive string of rides. The famous Danish farm, Blue Hors, has given Gal the ride on the Grand Prix Danish stallion Blue Hors Romanov (Rohdiamant x Grundstein II). Blue Hors has also given Lars Peterson the ride on Gredstedgards Casmir who will arrive in Florida in mid November. The goal of Blue Hors has been to have horse for the Olympics and it is the hope that these two top riders will get them there! Check out the story at Eurodressage.com!

The Chronicle of the Horse reports that Matthias Rath and Totilas have decided that the 2012 REEM ACRA World Cup is not going to be a goal for the pair. Instead, Rath and Totilas will be focusing on the ultimate goal of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Rath and "Toto" have aquired much success together and hope to add an Olympic Medal to that list. While it is not new for the Carriage Horse industry to be a very controversial subject, things are heating up bit time in the Big Apple. Earlier this week, a carriage horse named Charlie collapsed and died on the streets of New York. While a necropsy will determine the cause of death, much attention has been brought out as to the safety and care of horses in this industry. There is a company that is trying to get off the ground in Wellington that has a possible solution.
