News Notes for September 2, 2011 - This week’s News Notes is brought to you by Back on Track, the natural way to good health. This week, it was the U.S. that got to showcase our rising stars in the sport at the Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships held at Lamplight Equestrain Center in IL. Now our focus turns to the Pan Am selection trails being held at 2011 Collecting Gaits/USEF Festival of Champions in Gladstone, NJ. Dressage at Devon is also around the corner and the organisers have announced that the closing dates have been extended! In Europe, the FEI European Para-Equestrian Dressage Championships is underway in Moorsele, Belgium and a record breaking price was paid for an outstanding foal at the German Oldenburg auction. Olympian Guenter Seidel has announced a parting with long time sponsors Dick and Jane Brown. Temple Farms has taken the summer off to train their newest stallions for their outstanding performances and Britain's Carl Hester will perform with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna - will Carl be soing high school??
This week saw the Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships held at Lamplight Equestrain Center in IL. The quality of horses from the 4-year-olds to the Developing Horse Competition was outstanding and the program is showing that it is on the right track! Elsewhere across the nation, the show season has a somewhat quiet weekend coming up with Labor Day looming on Monday, August 5th. The south has two shows - NCDCTA Labor Of Love and the NCDCTA Sport Horse Breeding Show And Fall Classic in Raleigh, NC and the Labor's Reward in Aiken, SC. The north will host the Dressage At Stone Tavern in Allentown, NJ and Beland Stables Fall Dressage in Lakeville, MA. Wisconsin has the Silverwood Dressage September in Camp Lake and Washington will have the Northwest Sport Horse Breeders Classic II and III in Auburn, WA. California has the most action with Dressage at Intrepid Farms in Moorpark, SLO-CDS Fall Fling in Paso Robles, CA and the Woodbridge Farm Fall Classic in Petaluma, CA.
The 2011 Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships are a wrap and the depth of talent represented was outstanding! The horses were of super quality and the riders showcased their talents beautifully. The programs intention of encouraging proprer training, identifying upcoming talent and helping to prepare these youngsters for future FEI careers is proving to be a great success as many horses have emerged from this program and have continued to claim the ladder to FEI. USEF has reported that entries have been confirmed for the 2011 Collecting Gaits/USEF Festival of Champions, September 8-11. Headlining the event will be the Grand Prix National Dressage Championships and the Intermediaire I National Dressage Championship (which also serves as the USEF Selection Trial for the U.S. Dressage Team for the 2011 Pan American Games). There will be some super competition with powerhouse combinations such as Steffen Peters and Ravel! See who else makes up the lineup.
Olympian Guenter Siedel and his sponsors Dick and Jane Brown have ended their 20 year professional partnership. Seidel rode exclusively for the Browns and together the partnership garnered three Olympic Games and five World Championships earning them four team bronze medals and one team silver in Jerez 2002. Eurodressage.com reports that A La Dressage (by Ampere x Sandro Hit x Donnerhall) broke all records and became the best selling foal ever at a German Elite Foal Auction. This stunning mover was purchased by a swiss buyer for 200,000 euro (which is approximatley $285,271)! The previous record was for Sabeltanz which had sold for 127,000 euro. Bidding was hot from Dubai, Germany and Switzerland. Check him out and watch the video!
Dressage at Devon is arguably one of the most prestigious competitions held in the US and it is always highly anticipated. The USEF has announced that the closing dates for both performance and breed classes will be extended to September 15 with no late fees involved. Read More Here!
The FEI European Para-Equestrian Dressage Championships got underway September 1st in Moorsele with 79 riders from 19 countries set to compete at the Club Quadrille in Belgium. With nine time Paralympic gold medalist Lee Pearson and Beijing silver medalist Ricky Balshaw out of the competition due to injuries, Belgium and Germany are looking to take the top spots! Read More!
Temple Farms in Old Mill Creek, IL is known for producing outstanding Lipizzan horses and hosting performances with their stallions. For the first time in the history of Temple Farms performances, all the stallions are truly young horses and for that reason they took the summer off to train and fine tune the performance. They will be offering a dress rehersal on September 17th to show off the new show. Check It Out!
Speaking of Lipizzan's and performances...Horse & Hound has reported that British Superstar Carl Hester will be performing with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna November 25-27 at Wembley Arena.
