News Notes for August 24, 2011 - This week’s News Notes is brought to you by Back on Track, the natural way to good health. Six USEF titles are up for grabs this week at Lamplight Equestrian Center with the Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships, the Developing Horse Dressage Championships and the USEF Dressage Seat Medals! The 2011 European Dressage Championships have come to a close with Great Britain making history. After the EC, Hans Peter Minderhoud has retired his Olympic Partner, Nadine. Less than one year to go to the 2012 London Olympic Games and social media has already started playing a big role in the build up. Horses Unlimited, the nation's leading breeder will be auctioning off 40 homebreds with the minimum bid of only $1,000! Horse owners take not, Eastern equine encephalitis is showing itself in area's of the country, now might be the time to review your vaccination plan with your veterinarian.
This weekend's shows will be highlighted by the Markel/USEF National Young Horse Dressage Championships being held in Wayne, IL August 26-28, 2011! Also being held in conjunction with the YH Championships will be the 2011 USEF Dressage Medal Final and the USEF Developing Horse Championships as well as the Dressage at Lamplight August I and II. Also in the region is the Centerline Dressage Classic I and II in Springfield, IL, the Dressage At Waterloo Summer Finale I and II in Grass Lake, MI, the Mid-Ohio Sporthorse Showcase I, II & MODA Dressage At Wilmington in Wilmington, OH and the Northern Lights Dressage in Lake Elmo, MN. The north is pretty quiet with only the Breed Show @ Brookside I and II in N Smithfield, RI. The south has the Ole South Dressage in Murfreesboro, TN, the Fall Dressage Concours in Venice, FL and the White Fences At Palm Beach Equine I and II in Wellington, FL. Spread out of the western half of the country we have the Dressage At Celebration in Las Vegas, NV, the Whidbey Equestrian Center One More Time Dressage and Summers End in Coupeville, WA and California will host Cool August Nights Dressage in Burbank, Gavilan Chapter Summer in San Juan Bautista and the Fairwind Farm August in Santa Rosa.
This week six USEF Dressage National Championships will be up for grabs at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, IL. The Markel/USEF National Young Horse Championships will showcase 4,5 and 6-year-olds and the 7-9-year-olds will go head to head in the USEF National Developing Horse Dressage Championship. The USEF Dressage Seat Medal Finals will highlite riders in bot the 13 and under category as well as the 14-18 age bracket. Competition will get underway Thursday August 25. Follow the coverage!
The 2011 European Dressage Championships shaped up to be quite an historic event with Great Britain dominating the team competition capturing the Gold Medal! The entire team is looking like a powerhouse and strong contendersfor medals at the 2012 Olympic Games. Carl Hester's Uthopia scored an 82.568% which gave him the leading indivdual score of the team competition. Check out the coverage!
While the Team competition was all Great Britain, the Netherlands' Adelinde Cornelissen was the queen of the individual competition taking Gold in both the Grand Prix Special and the Grand Prix Freestyle. Cornelissen scored a very impressive score of 88.839 to convincing take Gold over Carl Hester's Uthopia who scored 84.179! The crowds were treated to some of the most exciting dressage and new combinations have emerged changing the dynamics at the top of the sport. Check it out!
Eurodressage.com has announced that Hans Peter Minderhoud's Olympic partner Nadine was retired in Rotterdam after an 11th place finish at the 2011 European Dressage Championships. It was made clear that the EC was to be Nadine's last championship. 2012 will see Nadine's career change rom that of a top level competition horse to broodmare....it will certainly be interesting to see who she is bred to for the first time! We have now offically passed the one year countdown to the 2012 London Olympic Games which marks 110 years of equine involvement in Olympic Games. The FEI has set up an image campaign on Facebook and will be updating news on both Facebook and Twitter. The London organising committee has also launched an "interactive stadium" on Twitter. Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) has begun to show up in areas of the country. Two horses were affected in two different Wisconsin counties as well as Halifax County in Eastern North Carolina. EEE is caused by a virus that is likely transmitted through the bite of mosquitos causing neurological symptoms. There is no cure for the disease and vaccination is highly effective. Be sure to check with your veterinarian to see if your vaccines are up to date!
