Los Alamitos Race Course, Cypress, CA - June 15, 2003 - John Andreini and Blane Schvaneveldt's Dale Badon will headline the 100th racing program of the season, as the hard-knocking sophomore figures to be the one to beat in Thursday's $13,550 allowance at 350 yards.
Named in honor of Schvaneveldt's former ranch manager, Dale Badon will be looking to score only his second win in 11 career starts. His lack of victories does not give justice to Dale Badon's ability, as the son of Corona Cartel has hit the board five times in his career while always facing the top horses in his division.
Last year, the New Mexico-bred sprinter raced in the Kindergarten Futurity and was second to Fortune First in the QHBC Juvenile Classic. This season, Dale Badon has hit the board three times, including a super effort in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby at 33-1. Bautista will pilot Dale Badon from post one.
Hi Tori, who also raced in last year's Kindergarten, will be one of Dale Badon's main challengers. Racing for Florencia Garcia, Hi Tori was sixth in the El Primero Del Ano Derby two outings ago before running second to El Primero finalist A Mere Special in a 300-yard allowance. Hi Tori has done well in his previous starts at 350 yards, so look for him to shine in this race. Ramon Sanchez, the AQHA Champion Jockey in 2002, will be aboard Hi Tori from post three.
Francisco Viramontes' Metamorphosis is another top contender in this race. The Pritzi Dash gelding has been around the finish line in each of his last three outings, running second twice against the likes of Radium Rays and Youthlike. In fact, he finished ahead of Dale Badon two outings ago; so do not be surprised if Metamorphosis blossoms into an allowance winner this evening.
Ed Allred's Enuffofasecret, who will be making his first start since facing Special Queen Sa last September, First Tycoon and promising newcomer Cartels Collection will also race. Now racing for Schvaneveldt, Cartels Collection appeared in a couple of stakes races in 2002.
