Aiken, SC – Custom Saddlery, makers of handcrafted custom-fit dressage, jumping, and event saddles, recently hosted an exciting, week-long continuing education meeting and event for saddle fitters. Drawing over 40 sadle fitters from around the world, including Canada, Holland, and the UK, this event clearly demonstrated Custom Saddlery’s dedication to supporting the development and growth of this important aspect of the equestrian industry.

The event was held at Custom’s headquarters in Aiken, South Carolina, and provided a platform for an incredible exchange of knowledge between experts and leaders in the field of saddles and tack. Custom Saddlery is one of the only saddle companies in the world that provides saddle fitters the opportunities to upgrade their skills at such a high level.

The agenda covered topics as diverse as record keeping to customer service to equine massage. Hands on training and workshops, along with group saddle fittings and evaluations with several industry leaders were also an important part of the learning.

Equine veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Stoffer, presented The Science of Saddle Fitting and discussed the phsyical and biological implications of proper saddle fit. Likewise, equine massage therapist, Robyn Drake, spoke about ways that experts are integrating massage into their work, and the many benefits that accompany it.

Tracings and trees are other topics that were covered and discussed by industry leaders Tonya Jones and Fred Taht. The event also provided Custom Saddlery the opportunity to reveal some of their new ‘sports model’ saddles and gave participants an insider’s look at their exciting new features, leathers, and colors, along with the new stirrup leathers and girths that are currently in new product development.

Staying true to their dedication to the industry and their ability to customize and best fit the rider, Custom Saddlery was pleased to provide this meeting and continuing education opportunity for its fitters.

Cary Wallace, President and Master Saddle Fitter at Custom, says they pride themselves on making it easy for top level equestrians to ride their best, and saddle fitters are a very important part of that process. In addition to their own high level of research and design, Custom Saddlery is dedicated to listening to the input of riders, trainers, and saddle fitters, making it possible to provide a wide range of styles of saddles and accessories to accommodate countless horse and rider combinations.

“By listening to riders and trainers, industry leaders, and with our state-of-the-art facilities, qualified personnel and combined knowledge, we are able to offer a great selection of the finest saddles available,” Wallace explains. “Also by working with top level equestrians we can continue to provide new models, styles, designs and products for maintaining our position as the top choice for dressage saddles in the market.”
