Las Vegas, Nevada - A highlight of the World Cup for Custom Saddlery was the “Selfies with Steffen” event that Custom sponsored at the USEF booth on Thursday, April 16 - directly after Steffen Peters’s amazing third place finish in the Grand Prix aboard Legolas 92 with a 76.843 percent. Hundreds of enthusiastic show attendees lined up to snap a photo with the Olympic athlete, who is sponsored by Custom Saddlery and calls Custom saddles “simply the best dressage saddles on the market.” Peters also signed Custom Saddlery visors for his fans. Custom Saddlery and the elite equestrians who ride in Custom saddles could be found everywhere at the 2015 Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage and Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Finals in Las Vegas on April 15-18. Whether offering “selfies” with Olympian Steffen Peters, raffling off a Custom Saddle, or watching the company’s sponsored top riders compete, Custom Saddlery made its presence known.

Custom Saddlery and the United States Equestrian Federation also kicked off the new USEF Perks program, which offers a free girth and stirrup leathers to USEF members with the purchase of a Custom Saddle.

Other swag Custom Saddlery offered at the show included free luggage tags at the USEF booth— but the biggest prize was a new Custom Saddle. People have been entering to win the saddle for months, and all were expectant to see what name would be drawn at World Cup. Julie Scherbarth and her daughter Janell, who is a competitive dressage rider, were the lucky raffle winners.

The Scherbarths were thrilled to win the saddle. Sarah Boothe, a senior saddle fitter with Custom Saddlery who was part of the team managing Custom’s events at World Cup, knows they will love it.

“People just have to sit in a Custom saddle one time,” Boothe said. “Once they sit in the saddle, it changes their position and the way the horse goes. I’ve seen horses that are very short strided, and when you fit them with the correct saddle it opens their shoulders and they have the correct freedom. I watch the horse evolve by just changing the saddle.”

Not only was Peters one of the Custom Saddlery sponsored riders in the World Cup final, but California Custom riders Beth Ball, David Blake, Anna Dahlberg, Mette Rosencrantz, and Sabine Schut-Kery were also featured in the Dressage Showcase. Ball performed in a Phantom of the Opera pas de deux, Blake dressed as Batman in a pas de deux, Dahlberg and Rosencrantz performed as a Wild West duo, and Schut-Kery and Peters were featured in the Rising Star competition aboard Sanceo and Rosamunde respectively.

“We are so blessed at Custom Saddlery to have some of the world’s best riders,” Boothe said. “We are thrilled that we have worked with Steffen for over 10 years. We’ve been his official saddle for that long. We are proud of all our top riders, but it is the amateurs who truly are the backbone of our company. Without the amateurs we would not be here today. I treat all our riders and horses the same— whether a PMU horse or a horse they bought from Europe, every horse is important and every saddle should fit correctly.”

With the addition of the Matrix saddle, Custom Saddlery now offers an even larger variety of saddle models to choose from with choices of knee rolls, flap-lengths, colors, and customization - even crocodile stamped leather to rhinestones to patent leather - to satisfy every rider.

“The main thing, of course, is the proper fit for the horse,” Boothe said. “With a team of more than 30 fitters worldwide, we strive to become not just a sales person but your friend, to take care of you and your horse to make sure things fit perfectly. Custom Saddlery stands behind their saddles. It’s wonderful to work for a company with that type of reputation.”
