LA, California– Grand Prix dressage rider Lehua Custer has been selected to serve as a dressage judge for the 2015 Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles, California, to be held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center on July 25-August 2. Custer, who rides in Custom Saddlery saddles as a Custom Saddlery MVR (Most Valuable Rider), has been judging a regional show called the California Network for Equestrian Therapy, Unlimited (CALNET) show for athletes with disabilities for the last several years.
She is honored to be chosen to judge the 2015 Special Olympic World Games, and Custom Saddlery applauds her for playing this role. Custer is an “L” level graduate and has expanded into the “r” program. Not only will the USDF Gold Medalist judge the competition, but the Burbank, California-based rider is graciously lending a horse to the Games. Ramazotti 75, a nineteen-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding (Master-Baccara, Bernstein), was Reserve Champion in the Third Level Freestyle Championship for USDF Region 7, and is a veteran of Young Riders and Juniors circuits.
The gelding will not be competing in the dressage portion of the Games as Custer is a judge. “He’s a wonderful horse,” Custer said. “He’s transitioning now to be a para-equestrian horse. I have a rider who is riding him who has limited use of her hands and lower legs. He’s great dealing with the wheelchair and mounting and dismounting.” Custer competes nationally with her FEI horse in the Small Tour and hopes to move up to Grand Prix in 2016. She has trained a number of horses up through the levels to FEI, and worked as Hilda Gurney’s assistant for ten years. Custer rides all her horses, including Ramazotti 75 and her Small Tour horse, in a Custom Saddle. “It’s the only thing that fits every horse in my barn, and almost every rider in my barn has one,” she explained.
“We’re very proud at Custom Saddlery to sponsor Lehua,” said Sarah Boothe, Custom Saddlery’s Senior Saddle Fitter. “And we’re excited that she’s received the honor of being selected as a dressage judge for the 2015 Special Olympic World Games.” “The Custom saddles are perfect for so many differently shaped horses,” adds Custer. “Sarah Boothe is able to help fit my clients’ PREs, thoroughbreds with very high withers, and everything in between! I just can't say enough good things about how much Sarah has helped me fit horses over the years.” Custer is proud to have been riding in Custom saddles for about a decade.
Custom Saddlery is the top choice for some of the finest dressage riders in the world. The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) named Custom saddles as the Official Saddle of the U.S. Dressage Team through the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After Team USA won the Gold Medal for dressage at the 2015 Pan American Games, they secured their place at the Olympic Games next summer. “We are thrilled to yet again be supporting some of the best riders in the United States," said Cary Wallace, Master Saddle Fitter and President of Custom Saddlery. “So many of our team riders are already in Custom saddles, as are so many other top riders in the U.S. and in Europe.”
The saddle company, based in Aiken, South Carolina, is the natural choice for the United States Dressage Team and for talented riders like Lehua Custer who are dedicated to giving back to the sport of dressage.
