Competitors Make Their Own Sunshine at the Lamplight Dressage Championships

Lamplight Equestrian Center finished out a busy year as hosts to the GAIG/USDF Dressage Regional Championships, and their own Lamplight Championships this weekend in style and in spite of the inclement weather. It did not dampen spirits, nor hold back competition which ran smoothly in seven arenas all weekend. Horses, tack, and riders weren’t spared the mud, but the solid foundation in the footing provided a secure foundation for over 500 horses which hung in there and did there best. But it was the stall decorating contest, with judging held Saturday evening during a huge competitors’ party and pig roast which was the hotly contested competition. Sponsored by KYB Dressage who also dominated the Regional Finals results, they played hosts by building a German Beer Garden in their shed row. It was Fireside Farm’s ingenious creation of Dancing With The Stars which were rewarded the grand prize by the judges who were unashamedly plied with mysterious drinks.

Winner of the Grand Prix Championship on Sandor, Patti Becker has also become an accomplished and competitive dancer, and has been joined by just about everyone in her barn. Becker admits dancing has helped her with her riding, improving her posture, strength and endurance.

Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois has been host to the USEA Eventing Championships, the Para Equestrian Qualifiers, the Dressage Equitation Finals, The Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships, multiple jumper shows, and a full season of Dressage competition headed off with their spring CDI.
