Wellington, FL and East Aurora, NY - Charlotte Jacobs and Kartouche VD Watering were unstoppable in the High Junior Jumpers, securing the division championship for Week XI of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) March 17 - 21, 2010 in Wellington, FL.
Jacobs piloted North Star Ventures of East Aurora LLC's Kartouche VD Watering to two wins over the course of the week. Jacobs and Kartouche VD Watering raced to victory in the High Junior Jumper Power and Speed, and then also took home the blue in the High Junior Jumper Class on Saturday. Finishing on Sunday, the pair went clear in the first round, but had four faults in the jump-off to place sixth in a field of 23.
Week Eleven was a successful week for Jacobs, who rides under the tutelage of Missy Clark and John Brennan of North Run. In between her strong rounds in the jumper ring, Jacobs competed in the 3rd Annual George Morris Excellence in Equitation Exhibition Friday evening on Kimberly McCormack's Sundance. She was third overall in the first round with a score of 91.16. After the two rounds of competition, Sundance and Jacobs finished in the sixth position overall for the 2010 George Morris Excellence in Equitation Exhibition.
Jacobs and Kartouche VD Watering dominated Friday's High Junior Jumper Power and Speed, stopping the timer at 32.948 seconds to take the win over the second place time of 36.119 seconds. On Saturday, the duo swept the competition in the International Arena to post another win in the High Junior Jumpers with a time of 64.960 seconds. Jacobs and Kartouche VD Watering entered the ring on Sunday as the pair to beat. An unfortunate four faults, and an expeditious time of 31.049 seconds in the second round landed them in sixth place overall.
Jacobs was happy with Kartouche's performance. She explained, " Friday's class was great, Kartouche went around at a nice pace, he wasn't too fast or too slow. On Saturday, Kartouche was so good. He just cantered around and did his thing. I was a little concerned about a combination that went triple oxer, vertical, vertical. I struggle with that type of combination sometimes, and I get a little forward with my body. Kartouche does a great job at supporting me in those times. On Sunday we had a knock down but it wasn't his fault or mine it just happened. I was excited to win the Championship in the High Junior Jumpers."
Jacobs and Kartouche VD Watering have been working together since May of 2009. With multiple victories in the Junior Jumpers, this horse and rider combination is looking forward to a bright future.
On Friday night, Jacobs had the 3rd Annual George Morris Excellence in Equitation class, which took place in the International Arena. Jacobs rode the famous equitation horse Sundance and landed in third with a score of 91.160 after round one, and finished sixth overall. Jacobs commented, "I was so nervous when I entered the International Arena. Luckily, I was able to watch multiple rounds go prior to our round. I went in, tried my best, and I was very happy with how we finished. Sundance has done so well in this class before, in 2008 he was second in the class and then in 2009, he was third. I was a little disappointed that I was not in the top four, but I felt I rode well, and Sundance did a great job."
Jacobs will finish Week XII of WEF next week, competing in the hunters and equitation classes, and then she looks forward to going back home to see her friends before she goes off to her next horse show.
