Chapot and Caristo-Williams Win at Lake Placid Horse Shows

Lake Placid, New York -Laura Chapot and Heather Caristo-Williams took top honors Thursday at the 46th annual Lake Placid Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC, taking the day's two featured classes.

Chapot, who dominated the horse shows last year and won a class on Wednesday, made it two days in a row when she rode Zealous to victory in the Hampton Inn 1.40-meter Power and Speed Class. She topped a field of 23 entries by riding fault-free over the 8-jump power portion of the course and then turning in the fastest fault-free time of 27.210 seconds over the seven-jump speed section.

Jeffery Welles, set to defend his title this Sunday in the $75,000 Devoucoux Grand Prix of Lake Placid, placed second on Broken Heart with a clean ride and a time of 28.297 seconds, while Caristo-Williams finished third with a clean ride and a time of 28.366 seconds on Wistful.

In the Dartbrook Rustic Goods 1.35-meter class, it was Caristo-Williams who came out on top with Chapot settling for second. In this class, 24 entries rode over the initial course designed by Show Jumping Hall of Famer Steve Stephens with 15 advancing to the speed section with clean rounds. Caristo-Williams then took the win by turning in the fastest clean ride, finishing in 29.510 seconds on Cosmopolitan 30. Chapot placed second with a time of 30.435 seconds on Umberto and Irish Olympic veteran Kevin Babington took third with a time of 31.214 seconds on Cariatide.
