More about Cavalia
"We've redefined the space completely," explained Normand Latourelle, President and Artistic Director of Cavalia Inc. "I wanted the stage to be completely free of masts and obstructions, giving our creative team the freedom to design any scene they could imagine for our two legged and four legged performers." Normand in his 40 year career in the performing arts has followed a path that has led him through all aspects of the industry, having occupied every position from lighting designer to agent, production manager, director and artistic director, as well as a  pioneer of Cirque du Soleil from 1985 to 1990. He has been the driving force behind many impressive and memorable events such as the sound and light show on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. Since 2003, Latourelle has been fully committed to Cavalia which has been seen by over 3.5 million people across North America and Europe since it's debut.

Borrowing structurally from cathedrals, the Big white Top's innovative architects and engineers used 4 masts, 4 arches and 220,00 square feet of canvas to create this massive tent which could withstand as much acrobatic and stage equipment as some of the best equipped permanent theatres in the world, but in the vast space Odysseo's 50 artist and 70 horses can run, dance, play and jump to their hearts content. "Odysseo is a feel good show," added Mr. Latourelle. "In these difficult, troubled times, Odysseo is a two hour departure that expresses something gentle, even tender. The joy of sharing our space with horses, a partner of humanity for the ages"  The installation requires 40 motors, a 250 ton crane, 166 poles to assemble the side walls and 20 trucks to transport the Big Top.

Despite the grandeur, every one of the 2,290 seats offers an excellent, unobstructed and intimate view of this feast for the eyes that succeeds in delivering the spectacular with soul. Cavalia was all about demonstrating the bond between horse and human, now Odysseo demonstrated the journey in which horses have shared with humans and land in which they've discovered together. With help from a 3-D screen, twice the size of a standard IMAX, you are transported to landscapes that you only see in movies. Extremely high definition graphic computer images transport the viewer from the Mongolian Steps to Monument Valley, from the African Savannah to Nordic glaciers and from the Sahara to Easter Island.

Without giving to much away, viewers will experience  the waking of 30 horses asleep onstage, a lake in which the horses gallop and play in that's created by super strong pumps who inundate the stage with 80,000 gallons of water in less than 3 minutes and the beautiful liberty number, uniting purebred Arabian horses directed by vocal commands from their kneeling trainer.

Jane Fonda called the show breathtaking "Beyond your wildest dreams." CNN's Larry King "Odysseo supposes the world's greatest shows." CNN's Felipe Barral quotes " have you seen tears of joy from a performance? I saw them in the audience of Odysseo." Odysseo will touch equestrians and give it's non equestrian audience a new sense of respect for the bond shared between human and horse as well as a respect for the horse itself.

“A horse is a thing of beauty... none will tire of looking at him as long as he displays himself in his splendour.” This quote by Xenophon is a true representation of what Cavalia's new show Odysseo embodies.
