Devon, PA - The Black Tie and Boots Ball, featuring cocktails, dinner, dancing and a live auction, will be held Saturday, May 7 at Bryn Clovis, Brushwood Farm in Malvern. The Ball benefits the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Foundation, and limited tickets are available. The evening will begin with cocktails and appetizers under the centuries old oak trees overlooking the rolling hills, horses and paddocks at dusk. Then guests will enjoy dinner and dancing under a tent, with a live auction, called by Freeman's Auction House and a silent auction.
One of the items to be auctioned is a ride for six on the stagecoach of the presenting sponsor of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, Wells Fargo on Friday evening, June 3. Also to be auctioned are a week’s stay in a condominium in Boca Grande, FL, and a week’s stay in a beach front house in Duck, N.C. Radnor Hunt is providing a private hunt for six couples with huntsman Joe Cassidy and his staff, and WXTV Radio has donated two VIP tickets to its all-day concert in Philadelphia, which includes a trip backstage to meet the stars of the show. Last but not least on the agenda for the live auction is a month’s lease of a gorgeous Jaguar automobile.
The silent auction includes a blue Hermes shoulder bag, a case of imported beer valued at over $200, a $100 gift certificate from Priscilla Florist and a selection of fine wine from Halter Ranch in California. What better gift could you give a child than a birthday party for 15 during the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, May 26 to June 5, that includes lemon sticks, ice cream and tickets to rides at the Country Fair, which is also offered in the silent auction.
Entertainment for this year’s ball will be Sugarfoot Farm, featuring musicians George “GT” Corrigan and Jim Unger playing classic, danceable rock-and-roll. Catering will be provided by Jimmy Duffy Catering, and floral arrangements will be provided by Valley Forge Flowers. Radnor’s huntsman, Joe Cassidy, will be present, dressed in his hunting Pink, and he will sound his horn to invite the guests in to dinner and to announce the live auction’s start.
Bryn Clovis is the thoroughbred breeding farm owned by Betty Moran, who has campaigned such champion race horses as Belmont Stakes winner Crème Fraiche, Aintree Grand National winner Papillon and I’m Sweets.
In 2004, Brushwood Stable bred Hard Spun, who, in the colors of Rick Porter of Wilmington, Del., went on to finish second in the Kentucky Derby, third in the Preakness and fourth in the Belmont Stakes.
The Black Tie & Boots Ball is sponsored by Pepsi Beverage Company with Wells Fargo as the presenting sponsor.
