BC Canadians Reid and Kilberg Win at Golden State Dressage Festival CDI-W in California


British Columbia dressage riders put in a series of spectacular performances at the Golden State Dressage Festival CDI-W held April 10 - 13, 2003 in Rancho Murieta, California.

The judging panel consisted of Uwe Mechlem FEI "O" (GER), Francis Verbeek FEI "O" (NED), Hanne Valentin FEI "O" (DEN), Janet Brown FEI "I" (USA), Jane Weatherwax USAE "S" (USA) and Gary Rockwell USAE "S" (USA).

Leslie Reid won the Grand Prix "A" test riding Mark, with a score of 65.958%. The duo then went on to win the Grand Prix Speciale with a score of 65.040%. Mark is a 9 year old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Edison, out of Gina and bred by M. Kroef of the Netherlands. He is owned by Daryl and Marie Andrews, of Langley, B.C.

Reid also captured the Intermediaire 1 Freestyle riding Largo with a score of 71.075%. Largo, owned and trained by Reid, is a 12 year old Holsteiner gelding by Lemgo, out of Dana, bred by Nan Morrison. Other results included a 4th place (32 entries) in the Prix St. Georges CDI-W classes with a score of 65.900%, and a 5th place in Intermediare 1 with a score of 66.775%.

Fellow BC rider Rochelle Kilberg riding West-Bay also enjoyed great results. The pair finished 2nd in the Intermediaire Freestyle with a score of 66.775%. They also placed 6th in the Prix St. Georges with a score of 64.000%, and 5th in the Intermediare 1 with 64.900%. West-Bay is a 12 year old Oldenburg gelding by Walldorf, out of Goldika, and is owned and trained by Kilberg.


Other notable Canadian accomplishments at this show include Dominique Culham and her mount Matisse, who won the award for "Best Turn Out" award for the CDI jog. Culham and Matisse continued on to compete successfully in the CDI-W classes finishing 16th in the Prix St. Georges with a score of 61.550%. Matisse is a 9 year old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Darwin, out of Galatea, bred by H. Hendricks, Netherlands, and owned by Gordon Culham. Although this was a drop from their previous score of 66.400% awarded at the CDI-W held in Burbank California March 28-30, Culham was still pleased with the result and looks forward to her next outing with Matisse at the Del Mar CDI-W show April 24-27, 2003 where she will be the lone Canadian competor.

Eleonore Elstone & Olivier, the youngest of the CDI-W equine competitors at the age of 7, came 7th in the Intermediaire Freestyle being awarded a score of 64.350% by the judges. Olivier is a Dutch Warmblood gelding by Clavecimbel, out of Jorite, and is owned and trained by Elstone.

Ashley Luca & Ivor, won the Individual Young Riders test with a score of 64.700%, and places second in the YR freestyle with a score of 64.00%. Ivor is a 12 year old Dutch Warmblood by El Corona, out of Fayca, and is owned by Jill Whitehead, of West Vancouver, B.C. Ashley trains with Leslie Reid.
