Battle in the Saddle, presented by RFD-TV will be celebrating Independence Day with not one, but two exciting events on July 3 and 4. The first event begins on July 3 with the “Red, White and Boom” concert starting at 8:30 p.m. at the Entertainment Plaza, directly across from the Jim Norick State Fair Arena.
Presented by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the concert will star the beautiful and talented Susan Powell. Directed by Maestro Joel Levine, the orchestra will perform a 90-minute concert featuring popular and patriotic favorites.Be sure to have lawn chairs and cameras ready for the fireworks display that will take place after the concert. The event is free and open to the public. There will also be vendors available for food service.
The second event is on July 4. This event is for everyone at Battle in the Saddle including exhibitors, family members, non-exhibitors and visitors. The party will take place 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the State Fair Park Sale Pavilion in Oklahoma City. This free event, sponsored by Shelly Fitzgerald of SF Quarter Horses will feature live entertainment, a cash bar and a real western hoedown.
Two entertainers will play at the party including lifelong singer and musician of Texas dancehall music, Tommy Hooker. Hooker has been performing since 1967 and has played with legends including Leon Raucsh, Darrell McCall and Hank Thompson.
Steel guitar player Gary Carpenter will be the other performer of the night. Native to Oklahoma City, Carpenter is well known for his talent throughout the south. So wear your stars, stripes and dancing boots and head down to the sale pavilion on July 4.
Owned by Oklahoma State Fair and managed by AQHA, Battle in the Saddle welcomes all breeds. Additionally, AQHA points will be awarded to American Quarter Horse competitors.
This year’s Battle in the Saddle takes places July 3-8 and will include $149,000 in added money, making more than $300,000 in estimated purses. Battle in the Saddle is presented by RFD-TV, and the event will once again be aired on RFD-TV. Other sponsors include: Ram Rodeo, Four Sixes Ranch, Professional’s Choice, Montana Silversmiths and The American Quarter Horse Journal.
