Batido Passed Away

Linda and Dale Hackney's Hanoverian breeding stallion Batido (Bolero x Dirk) has passed away in his pasture in Jupiter, FL, on Thursday March 11, 2004. The dark bay stallion presumably died of a heart attack.

"Batido left a legacy of incredible offspring who are just now starting to make a name for themselves in the show ring," Linda Hackney said. "We wish to thank all of the many mare owners who were lucky enough to have a Batido foal of their own - they truly are special."

In 1999 Batido won the individual bronze at the North American Young Riders' Championships in Wadsworth, ILL, under Nicole Perry. In 2000, he got first place in the USDF /AHS Horse of the Year ranking for the Grand Prix freestyle.

Besides Nicole Perry, Batido also temporarily had Guenter Seidel and Kathleen Raine as rider. In 1995, Batido claimed team silver in the Pan Ams, and team gold in the Can Am Challenge, capping off that year by coming the USDF Horse of the Year at PSG/Inter I level.

Batido will be greatly missed by the Hackney's, who are also standing Werigo and Madison at San Diego Sporthorses in Jamul, California.
