In Memoriam - Barbara Silverman 2/20/1958 - 5/24/2000

Word of Barbara's passing came early this morning, ending her very valiant, open and public struggle with the disease known as "the silent killer of women" , Ovarian Cancer. Her success as one of America's leading dressage riders culminated a lifetime career by representing her country in international team competition, at the CDI O Hickstead , England in 1999.

She shared her knowledge and love of horses with the many friends, students and clients she had throughout her career. She also shared her struggle with the disease that she lived with for over 16 years. Barbara appeared on NBC's the Today Show, and in a feature article in People Magazine. Barbara knew the urgency of spreading the word about the disease she knew would take her life. She wanted women to benefit from her experience by creating an awareness of a disease not easily detected until it is often too late.

It was Barbara's wish that her legacy be carried out in spreading the word about this disease by supporting the organization she had worked with. The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA), is an organization dedicated to conquering Ovarian Cancer by uniting organizations and individuals in a national movement. Their mission is to increase knowledge and awareness through education on the disease.

According to Barbara's wishes a Memorial Fund in her name has been established. To learn more about Ovarian Cancer and to make a donation in Barbara's name,
