We have received reports that Australia's top carriage driver Boyd Exell has been involved in another accident. This follows a bad accident in July last year, which prevented Boyd from participating at the Aachen World Equestrian Games.
Boyd was driving a tandem 300 metres down the road from his gate, with head groom Michelle on the back step of the carriage. A car hit the right-hand side of the carriage at incredible speed, which flipped the wheeler completely over and threw Boyd and Michelle five metres in the air. It was a hit & run accident but the driver was caught in a near-by village.
Boyd has rebroken his leg high in the femur near his hip joint and has broken the hip joint as well. He has had surgery to repair (more pins) and now faces another lengthy recovery. Michelle sustained a broken ankle and facial damage.
In the meantime, Boyd's wife Preetha and newly-born son James are doing well in hospital. James will be in a humidicrib for several more weeks. They are 100km away from Boyd. We wish Boyd and Michelle a speedy recovery and hope that Boyd will be re-united with Preetha and James very soon.
Boyd's parents will leave for the Great Britain today.
