Congratulations Ashley and "Poppy"!
Ashley Holzer’s Olympic mount Pop Art only arrived in Belgium last week where they are training with five members of the Canadian squad at the beautiful Jewel Court Stud in Belgium. But in spite of the fact the pair had not competed since the Dressage Masters in Wellington Florida last winter, the dynamic duo beat a large international field at the Lingen CDI*** in the Grand Prix Freestyle with a whopping 76.3%. "I am thrilled. I can't believe Poppy pulled that off just landing in Europe a week ago." Holzer told DressageDaily in an e-mail send from her Blackberry, while waiting for a flight back to her home in New York City. "Rusty (Ashley's husband) came over to see me so it was wonderful to have him with me! When I emailed Evi (Strasser) she was so happy! I was exhausted as the class went till 10:30pm! The prize giving ceremony was a lot of fun!! My 4:AM wake up call came pretty quickly!"
Topping the favorite British Rider Laura Bechtolsheimer and Andretti H (76.150) and Germany’s Ellin Schulten-Baumer and Donatha S (75.60). Canada’s Shannon Dueck and her expressive mare Ayscha were 8th with a 69.650, followed closely by Cheryl Meisner and Paganini (69.4).
"It was a great show" Holzer continued. "I also rode my friend Eliana Von Reesma's (nee Cordia) horse Sonnenstern in the small tour and he was 3rd and 4th! This was his first ever CDI (third show in total!!) and his first time through the Intermediaire 1. His owner Eliana, is graciously letting all the Canadians stay at her family's stable in Belgium. It is called Jewel Court Stud and its gorgeous. Her mother, Mrs Cordia, and the stable manager Wiebke Bank, even drove the three hours to come and see him show on Saturday. Everyone did really well. Robert (Dover) is working very hard and doing a great job. He is putting his whole heart into it and we all really appreciate it! Shannon (Dueck), Belinda (Trussel) and Cheryl (Meisner) were incredibly pleased with their great placings too! Bonny (Bonnello) had a great ride as did Wendy but some small yet costly mistakes kept them out of the prize givings. I'm already at airport (about to board) to fly home for a few days."
