Lexington, VA— “It’s about putting the horse first to ensure that he gets what he needs to be successful and healthy and to do what he needs to do,” said Craig Roberts, explaining the philosophy of his Glen Aryn Farm in Loudon County, Virginia. Craig and his wife Cynthia proved the success of their system at the recent 2015 International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) National Championship Show, where Aragon GAF— a six-year-old PRE Andalusian stallion who was bred, born and raised by Glen Aryn Farm— won the TheraPlate Peak Performance Award for his superior fitness, conformation, and movement.
Aragon GAF, described by the Roberts as a “distinguished gentleman,” stood out to the show committee and USEF rated judges at the IALHA National Championships because of his outstanding build and movement. The committee and judges selected Aragon to receive the TheraPlate Peak Performance Award. TheraPlate Revolution Therapy Platforms sponsored the award to promote the company’s core values of developing fit, healthy horses who are prepared to excel in competition.
The Roberts are proud of their award-winning stallion, who they knew would be an excellent horse from the start. Aragon (Invasor III x Habana XXV) is a grandson of the Qualified PRE stallions Evento and Oleaje, both Olympic medalists in Dressage for Spain. “Our breeding program strives to put the best mares to the best stallions,” said Cynthia Roberts. “Aragon’s movement speaks for itself, and he has a wonderful work ethic. We’ve been blessed.”
At the IALHA National Championships, Aragon was ridden by Felicitas von Neumann-Cosel. Von Neumann-Cosel, head trainer and manager of First Choice Farm, has been riding and working with Aragon for three years. Throughout the past three years, Aragon has earned multiple Champion titles in the FEI Five and Six Year Old Dressage classes as well as USDF Breeders, Mature Horse, and Stallion classes, just to name a few. Most recently, Aragon qualified for and was invited to the 2015 Markel/USEF Young and Developing Horse Dressage National Championships at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Illinois.
“He is highly, highly talented,” Von Neumann-Cosel said. “We try to combine his ability to move with allowing him to express himself in competition.” Von Neumann-Cosel’s training facility has a TheraPlate Revolution Therapy Platform, which Aragon has been using routinely since winter. “It’s clear that he has to be an athlete to be able to do dressage, and the TheraPlate helps a lot,” said Von Neumann-Cosel.
In addition to Aragon’s stunning movement and talent as a competitor, what his owners are most impressed by is his temperament. “His disposition is exceptional. He’s a very willing and patient partner who loves to perform and is very eager to please,” said Craig Roberts. Aragon has had this quiet and respectful personality ever since he was a baby. “He has just been a wonderful horse to be around and work with,” said Cynthia.
Craig and Cynthia Roberts have been breeding PRE Andalusians for ten years, focusing on strong bloodlines and performance. While extensive research and planning go into all breeding decisions, Craig says that there are many other factors that go into their top performance horses like Aragon GAF. Good nutrition, regular maintenance, and working with an excellent team of people are top priorities to the Roberts.
The TheraPlate Peak Performance Award distinguishes horses that stand out from the crowd, exemplifying the most pristine fitness and athletic ability of their breed. “We greatly appreciate TheraPlate for presenting us with this award and recognizing our boy— it’s great to have others take notice of such athletes,” said Craig.
