The 2013 Ocala Winter Dressage Circuit is a reflection of the opportunities dressage competitors have for training and showing in the early part of the year, earning experience and qualifying scores in a horse friendly environment, supported by the State of Florida, at the Florida Horse Park. Ocala has established its importance in the breeding world, since the 1940’s when horse breeders from Kentucky discovered the lime-based soil was producing larger boned cattle and there had to be a benefit to moving their mares to similar pasture land but in a warmer climate where foals begin to appear earlier in the year. For dressage trainers and riders like Anna Marek and Belinda Nairn-Wertman, Ocala is the perfect starting point for the winter season. “I have now lived in Ocala full time for two years now to train with Belinda Nairn-Wertman, ” said Marek, who moved from Michigan. “ I really love the area, very beautiful horse country. We have to get through the hot summers but we make that our off-season. The horses get a little break and go easy playing in the field and trail rides (my favorite!). We have a pretty nice situation with the Wellington circuit and multiple CDI’s to choose from just 4 hours away. It's not a big deal to get down there for the weekend, and the horse in our breeding program live on real dirt with grass that grows!” {C}

Marek debuted Warina a 10y/o KWPN mare by Sir Sinclair x Sultan owned by Fran Marino, in her first Prix St Georges at the 2013 January Ocala Winter Dressage Show, and began the 2013 Grand Prix season with her own Unico G, a a 12y/o KWPN gelding by Negro x Animo. “Fran bought Warina from Belinda Nairn- Wertman as a young horse. I've been riding her for almost a year now with help from Belinda on the ground.” Marek finished second in the PSG with a 70.526 to Silva Martin and Rosa Cha W 73.684, who traveled from their winter base in Aiken SC. “I couldn't have been happier with this start, her first show at Prix St Georges.” Sais Marek. “We plan to take her along with Unico G to Wellington this winter. I think the highlight for this show was getting "Mia" through a clean test our first time out. There is much room for improvement but we get along very well and I needed to get to know her in the show ring as well.”

Marek earned a 70.745% with her own Unico G in the Grand Prix under judge Sue Kolstad. “ ‘Nico’ and I have been together since he was 5 years old so we have grown up together. This year I can feel his strength and we are both more confident in each other, and am looking forward the CDI’s this season.

I am very thankful to have these two wonderful horses to ride and compete. I'm also thankful for the partnership with Belinda. She pushes me everyday. We plan on taking Unico to a few CDIs this winter and I'm very thankful to Fran Marino for the opportunity to ride and show Warina. I'm excited about a partnership with this special mare!
