Dutch dressage ace Anky van Grunsven definitely will participate at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. She will be a member of the Dutch reining team.
Anky, who was named as the reserve on the reining team will now take part in the competition after teammate Jurgen Pouls had to withdraw due to an injury to his horse. Her equine partner is her quarterhorse Whizashiningwalla BB.
“I'm very excited,” said Anky. “Although it's a shame of course that Jurgen Pouls is not able to go. As the reserve I’ve already made a lot of preparations including extra vaccinations for Whiz. To be honest about this: I’m certainly not on the level yet to contest in the upper rankings. It’s quite a challenge to be in the team with my trainer Rieky Young. However I really hope that I can be of help for the team by getting a good score and I will put 100% into it.”
Anky van Grunsven was also named reserve for the Dutch dressageteam with IPS Painted Black. Although the black KWPN approved stallion was recently sold to Spanish junior rider Morgan Barbançon, it was agreed that Anky still trains the stallion and will be the reserve for the Dutch dressageteam at WEG. Owners of Painted Black were the I.P.S Group, Joop van Uytert and Equestrian International BV. The horse that is still at sixth position on the FEI World ranking list will be competed by Anky at the CDI Donaueschingen next week.
One happy Dutch rider now also is the hope for Dutch eventing Olympian Tim Lips. As he receives dressage lessons by Anky he now is very happy that Anky will be at WEG anyway and will keep her eye on him as well.
