Anky van Grunsven and Sjef Janssen Sue Astrid Appels of EuroDressage

Anky van Grunsven and Sjef Janssen have sued Astrid Appels of eurodressage.com over use of a photo of Salinero in relation to an article on the Rollkur issue. Earlier this year, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) had ruled that Rollkur (hyperflexion), defined as “flexion of the horse’s neck achieved through aggressive force” is unacceptable but that “Low, Deep and Round (LDR), which achieves flexion without undue force” is acceptable. Van Grunsven and Janssen refer to their technique as LDR. The lawsuit states that photos used on eurodressage.com with articles referring to the Rollkur ban imply that they use Rollkur techniques rather than LDR. Attorneys for Appels claim that she has been verbally threatened by Janssen and is considering legal action against him over the threats. The case filed by van Grunsven and Janssen is scheduled to be heard in the Dutch courts on September 8, 2010.
