American Gold Cup Horse Show Jumping Returns to Cleveland

Moreland Hills, OH –

The prestigious Cleveland Autumn Jumper Series, including the American Gold Cup and the North Coast Jumper Classic, will return to the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in just a few weeks. After a year’s absence the two-week show jumping spectacular returns Wednesday, September 8.

The highlight of the two-week Cleveland Autumn Jumper Series is the international FEI World Cup qualifying competition, the American Gold Cup class on Sunday, September 19, at 2:00 p.m.

“We are committed to bringing the nation’s top show jumpers to Cleveland. This area is so supportive of show jumping and although we are still without a title sponsor, the show will go on,” said Michael Morrissey, who brought the American Gold Cup back to its Cleveland birthplace in 2006 after a 35-year absence.

The Cleveland Autumn Jumper Series begins with the North Coast Jumper Classic, September 8-12, including the $35,000 North Coast Grand Prix on Saturday, September 11. This event is followed by the American Gold Cup show, September 15-19, which will include the $30,000 American Gold Cup Welcome Stake on Friday, September 17, which is a qualifier for the $75,000 American Gold Cup class on Sunday, September 19.

The 2010 American Gold Cup will feature many top riders including the 2008 American Gold Cup winner Norman Dello Joio who is an Olympian and World Cup Champion, McLain Ward, 2004 Olympic Gold medalist, Olympian and World Equestrian Games team member, Margie Engle, has over 175 grand prix wins and multiple American Grand Prix Association Rider of the Year titles, Joe Fargis, three-time Olympic medalist (two times Gold), and Candice King, who just returned from representing the United States in Europe, including the World Cup Finals.

JustWorld (www.justworldinternational.org) accomplishes this goal by working with international organizations to provide basic education, nutrition and other programs for children in impoverished communities, along with raising awareness and funds in the international equestrian community and by providing young people with volunteer opportunities.

Event admission is free for the North Coast Jumper Classic and the weekdays of the American Gold Cup show. The final American Gold Cup weekend, September 18-19, tickets will be available at the gate. Box seats are available for both events by calling 440-834-8615 or by visiting StadiumJumping.com.
