Devon, PA - In a ring "where champions meet," trotting out from among the best of the best with a Devon Horse Show blue ribbon is an impressive accomplishment. Heading home after two days and four classes of equitation with not just one first place blue ribbon but two, in addition to a second place finish, is not only extremely impressive, it is a mark of great talent, consistency and a great team.
Norfield Stables LLC's Ali Tritschler and her mount Helio Rouge kicked off their Devon Junior Weekend Thursday with a win in the WIHS Equitation Classic - Jumper Phase Section B, followed by a second place finish in the Pessoa/USEF Hunter Seat Medal Section A. Tritschler then returned Friday morning to take the victory in the ASPCA Maclay Horsemanship Section A.
"I feel really good. I was second in the Medal last year and the year before, but I've never been this consistent at Devon before," Tritschler said. "It was just really nice to be that consistent and have the judges show that consistency in my results." Trainer Walter "Timmy" Kees attributes much of Tritschler's consistency to her extremely hard work and dedication at home, as well as to the great support system behind her.
"She really is totally committed to what she's doing. No shortcuts," Kees said. "She's not cavalier about her responsibility. She's been fortunate enough that her mom has really gone out of her way to get her some nice horses, and her grandmother, before she died, bought her [Helio Rouge]. He's all of it. So her support systems have been great, but more importantly, she's been responsible to those generous gifts from both sides of her family."
Likewise, Tritschler and her mom, Libby McKinney Tritschler, attributed much of the Ali Tritschler's success to Kees and the team at Norfield Stables LLC. "I'm so lucky and so honored that we picked the barn that we picked. I cannot feel more lucky. I'm an emotional mom, and I cried today," Libby Tritschler said following Ali Tritschler's Maclay win. "I think all the kids do it for Timmy too. We love Walter."
While at Devon, Ali Tritschler also had the great support of Norfield trainer Chris Cawley, who regularly helps prepare her for the jumper ring. "This time we brought Chris Cawley with us who we have all the time in the jumper ring, but we don't have in the equitation ring," Libby Tritschler said. "He's dedicated himself to these kids in the equitation ring. He schooled every single one of our horses and helped our children. I think the impact really showed itself this weekend. Now he'll never be able to walk away from the equitation again!"
This year marks Ali Tritschler's last year competing in the junior division, and the team at Norfield Stables LLC. is extremely proud of all that she has accomplished thus far. "Once again, to me and everyone around her, she proved she's a very good rider," Kees said. "Devon is such a special place and a special town, and it's just a new set of pressures. In my opinion, the special kids do that well. They don't fold under pressure; they rise up to another level. It's fun to watch and great to be a part of it."
