As we were leaving Bedminster, NJ to fly home on September 11, 10 years from the attack on the World Trade Center, we noted one of many tributes to America in this community close to New York City which lost many of their citizens. Announcer for the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Dressage Festival of Champions Brian O'Connor delivered this fitting tribute as the American Dressage team for the Pan American Games was determined on the final day of competition. Today we pause to honor and recognize those individuals who gave their lives and lost their lives in one of the most horrible and painful events that our generation can remember. 9/11 was a tragic day for the United States and the world and yet we still adhere to the notions of freedom, liberty and friendship - nationally and internationally. This weekend we are selecting a team of athletes that will represent the US in international sport. Athletes are the true ambassadors for their countries - no politics, no grudges, no ulterior motives - just sport.
We hope that during the following moment of silence and inspirational song that was recorded to benefit victims of 9/11 that you will keep these thoughts, your prayers and your support for all the men and women who serve and continue to serve our great country - those who help to preserve our American values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We wish our USEF Pan Am team the very best of luck and God Bless us all.
