Wellington, FL - “A good seat is everything,” said 2KGrey Best Seat Award winner, Shannon Dueck, after guiding eight year-old British sport horse, Allegro II, through a confidently forward Third Level performance during Adequan Global Dressage Festival Week 5 CDI 4*/3* at Florida's Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington. The 16.3-hand gelding, better known as 'Alfie,' was still in Britain when he first piqued the interest of 2012 Olympic Dressage Team (UK) Gold medalist, Carl Hester, who suggested to Sally Alksnis that she consider the young sport horse as a dressage prospect. "When Carl says a horse is good, it's good,” said Alksnis, who purchased Allegro II and put his training into Dueck's good hands.
It's clearly paying off. Dueck and Allegro II won both their Open Third Level tests at AGDF 5, including a thrilling 70.0% approval from Saturday's judges.
“He's young, he's green and he did a mistake-free test. He's got a lot of Thoroughbred on his dam's side, so there's no bottom to this horse,” grinned Dueck, who also rode two upper level horses that same weekend, but none delivered winning scores like Allegro II.
“He could,” she said, echoing Hester's opinion, “become a really good Grand Prix horse.”
“We completely agree with Shannon that a good seat is essential to a good ride, and we saw her and 'Alfie' prove that at one of the most prestigious dressage venues in the world. We couldn't be prouder to present her with our Best Seat Award,” said Meryl Ranzer of 2kGrey.
“I'm thrilled to be selected,” said Dueck. “I can't wait to try the riding pants.”
When Wellington's dressage riders want to look good showing and schooling, they have been choosing 2KGrey's functional chic, featuring riding pants that cross over as jeans outside the barn, with a flattering fit and fashion-forward detailing.
