2012 NRCHA - Carol Roberts Leads After Two Events

Riding the momentum from her sparkling 223 herd work score on Tuesday, Carol Roberts, Ojai, CA, continues to lead the NRCHA Derby Non Pro prelims aboard Oaks Dual Rey following today's reined work round. Roberts and her 5-year-old gelding scored a 214 in the reined work for a 437 composite after two events. Oaks Dual Rey is sired by TR Dual Rey, out of the Doc's Oak mare, Docs Pearly Oak. 

The top spot in the Intermediate and Novice Non Pro Derby divisions belongs to Gene Armstrong and his 5-year-old gelding, No Foolish Cat. Their combined score of 435.5 includes a 220.5 reined work, which was the high-scoring run in the Non Pro, Intermediate and Novice Non Pro divisions. No Foolish Cat is by WR This Cats Smart out of Lean Acre Doc, by Bob Acre Doc.

In the Amateur Derby, Jessie Telford and Vandas Spark own the lead after two preliminary events, with a combined 427 score. Telford guided her Shining Spark mare to a 214 in the reined work, the second-high score of the Derby Amateur. Mark Buckley piloted Dillons Skarlet Chic to a 216 to win the reined work preliminaries. Dillons Skarlet Chic is by Matt Dillon Dun It and out of the mare Scarlets Smart Chic.

The Non Pro Limited Derby leader after two events is Linda Wood and Cee Mr Cats Merada, with a 426. They scored 213 in the herd work and marked another 213 in the reined work today. The winner of the Non Pro Limited Derby reined work round was Ingrid Vangelos, who maneuvered Smooth As A Diamond to a 215.

The Derby finalists, and the winners in the Amateur and Non Pro Limited divisions, will be decided after the third and final leg of preliminary competition, the cow work, which begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. PDT.
