In 2005, Chrissa took the reins of her mother-in-law’s horse, Kalman Kahilie, Baden-Wuerttemberg gelding (Kalman x Raida by Rekord) owned by Peggy Randolph, and imported by Chrissa from Germany in 2002. "Kali” had competed up to Intermediaire in Germany, but came with some issues,” Chrissa recalls. “He had tendencies for a lateral walk, was weak in his back and overall carriage, and had very little piaffe.”
With the help of her new trainer, Alex Gerding, Kalman Kahilie and Chrissa Hoffmann competed that year at Grand Prix with scores in the 60s. Together, in six months, they improved the walk from a 4 to a 6, and actually earned four 7s on piaffe! As a result of her success with “Kali” and Alex Gerding, Chrissa earned her USDF Gold Medal in August 2005.
In the last five years, Chrissa has trained and competed four horses to FEI, and brought two to the Grand Prix level. She also has a list of students who have done well, earning USDF All Breeds Awards, local year-end titles, and USDF medals.
